Van Hunt wins a Grammy, but…
…for the wrong record.
Congrats to Van Hunt for his Grammy win last night for:
Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals
(For duo, group or collaborative performances, with vocals. Singles or Tracks only.)
Family Affair
(Sly & The Family Stone), John Legend, Joss Stone With Van Hunt
Track from: Different Strokes By Different Folks
[Epic/Legacy Recordings]
Now, Van should’ve been nominated (and should’ve won) for On The Jungle Floor, but I’ll take this, since it may draw more attention to OTJF and his forthcoming record. Van is the MAN. I’m also sore that his award and speech was part of the pre-show rather than the live telecast. Boo. Save for the opening performance by The Police, I had no compelling reason to watch The Grammys, which has been the case for years. When they start nominating and awarding independent artists, I’ll start watching.
What a time we had!
The PlanetSoul.com Launch Concert & Party was a great success! The place was packed, and the audience was treated to a little spoken word poetry, a few songs from Casuell and Mishal Moore, and a huge helping of Eric Roberson. Miami’s own Deep Fried Funk Band did an outstanding job backing up the artists, and the event’s host, Def Poet Will the Real One, was both laid-back and entertaining.
Special thanks to Chai Footman and Mocha Soul Promotions for putting on this event. We’ll be posting pictures on the PlanetEvents page later this week.
Shout Outs & Thank-Yous
On this day of the website launch, I’d just like to take a second to recognize a few folks who’ve had a hand in the development of PlanetSoul.com.
Sandy: Without you, this website wouldn’t exist. Thanks for being my partner in all things, and for always reminding me to enjoy the ride. We already have two beautiful stinkers, but I think this project qualifies as our third child together! Thanks for helping me bring this baby into the world. XOXOXOXO
Craig Chapman, Chai Footman, and Terry Bello: Thanks for your ongoing support of this project and your friendship. Your work and commitment to this music game are inspiring. Big things in ‘07…believe that!
Rahsaan Patterson and Jamey Jaz: You two blessed this site with the dopest theme song I could ask for. That’s why I call him Rahsaan THE TRUTH Patterson! Ya heard?!
And to all my comrades supporting indie soul: your encouragement and energy during the process of building this website has been a tremendous blessing. It truly is a movement and I look forward to continuing on this journey with all of you.
